Hello Oasis!
First off, I wanted to say WINTER CAMP WAS AWESOME. It was great seeing most of your wonderful faces, playing in the snow, and most importantly, personally encountering God. I was really concerned about money and missing school and the hassle of going to winter camp, but it was well worth it!!! Starting since my winter break, but especially since winter camp, my faith has really solidified because God just keeps revealing Himself to me in such real ways. Small things like postponed midterms and extra money have helped me see God, and I’m so thankful that He cares about all areas of my life. I’ve also been able to witness his work in the lives of two of my closest friends, who I never thought would give God another chance, who have recently renewed their faith!
I also wanted to say that I’m happy to hear about all the exciting stuff happening in San Diego! From what I’ve heard and read, the first Live! seemed to be a success (by God’s grace), and I’m so excited for this new this new opportunity for people to worship Him with all kinds of talents! I’ve also seen pictures and statuses on facebook about the flag football league, and I’m so glad to hear about the awesome camaraderie developing among lots of different churches!
As for what’s going down in Berkeley…I have recently been working with two college pastors from Chi Alpha ministries to help charter the official fellowship on campus. Chartering is basically doing technical stuff like submitting forms and constitutions and signing papers. I meet with them several times a week for discipleship, workshops, and prayer walks. Currently the workshop they are presenting is called “Foundations of Faith,” which reaches out to both Christians and Non-Christians. We’ve been going over the common topics like “What Is Christianity?” Today we covered “Why does a good God allow suffering? Why does a good God send people to hell?” which was a not-so-happy topic for Non-Christians to hear, but it was presented in a way for open discussion. It reminded me of my very first Overflow, being overwhelmed by STD slides presented by Uncle Byon, yet I still came back to hear more…haha. Our group is really small for now…But I’m excited for whatever’s in store for the future
Also, adding to what’s going down in Berkeley… It’s been a crazy week at school: People breaking into classrooms and people rioting on the streets. African American students having a silent march. Israeli students and Palestinian students having their own protests. All this craziness is leading up to the big strike tomorrow for public education. This day, March 4, has been publicized for a long time on campus as a call to action for our public education, but with recent events such as the “Compton Cookout” at UCSD (look it up if you don’t know what it is), a lot more things like racism has popped up aside from the issue of public education. There is so much brokenness going on on campus, and this seems to be the time for people to voice their opinions, beliefs, and concerns. Mayhem may strike from the arousal of fervent protesters. The days are getting crazier and crazier…
Arm yourselves, saints!
